Empty Excel Sheet When Exporting Grades

I'm using Moodle 1.9.3+ (Build: 20081217).

I'm good to this point: 

Grades

Export Excel spreadsheet Preview rows

The students grades show up fine in the preview. When I click Download and Open, I get a blank spread sheet. If I choose Plain Text File instead of Excel it downloads the data.

This question may have been answered many times before, but I'm getting cross-eyed looking through tutorials and forums for the same subject without success.

Can you help me please?

Are you able to upgrade to 1.9.4 and try again? I've never heard of this problem occurring before.

Actually, I had an instructor call me with the same problem. The instructor was using a Mac and I don't recall now what browser she was using. When I downloaded the same file using a pc, I had no problem. It was during the rush of getting grades in when the problem occurred (December 2008), so I just sent the file I downloaded to her and she went from there. I totally forgot about it until reading this post. Obviously, I never did any follow up.

Hey all,

I'm currently experiencing the same problem with the exporting feature in the gradebook. We have spoken to our IT area and they have advised us we have the most up to date version of moodle yet this gradebook export feature is not working properly.

When I export the grades, the results turn up just fine, its the name of the students that dont show up at all.

I have included some screen shots with this post.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks heaps.

I was just thinking, are the students enrolled in the course suppose to appear here in the initial gradebook screen?

I am having the same problem. Yes, a Mac, and 1.9.3 (Build: 20081015). But I did not have the problem back in May, everything worked fine, and I don't think our builds have changed.

This course is a "restored" copy of that May course, to which I have added drills, forum, and assignments, so as to take a "hybrid" (half F2F) up to totally online.

Problem solved - at least in my course: There was an error in one of the many calculated columns.

Hi just log in as Admin/Teacher and find out which calculated column is giving error while browsing the grades.

(Turn editing on) Select edit calculations for the column (by name) re-modify the formula to solve the error.

Once you solve all your columns which have ERROR and export will work like charm.....
