Resource sharing error.

Resource sharing error.

Andy Chauhan -
Erantzun kopurua: 8

I want to share a perticular resource between 2 courses. I add a resource resource to my new course, and specify the resource type as a web page. Following which on in the URL field I specify the URL from the course which has already has a resource as an uploaded file. On doing this I get the following error:

Warning: urldecode() expects parameter 1 to be string, object given in /home/chauhana/public_html/dev/moodle/mod/resource/index.php on line 66

Can somebody help.

You can't upload a file to course A and then use it in course B, because the files uploaded to course A are only accessible to users of that course.

If you are the admin of your site, though, you can upload the file to the site's "Files" and then make it available in both courses, A and B.

I'm having the same trouble.

I have logged in as the site admin and uploaded some files to "Site Files".
Course A and course B both need to access these files.
But, course A and course B can't access "Site Files" via a "Directory Resource" or any other method I've tried.

Can you explain how to: "...upload the  files to the site's "Files" and then make it available in both courses, A and B"

I'm using 1.3.1

Thanks heaps irribarrea

Re: Resource sharing error.

Julia Dando -
On this matter, has anyone figured a simple, friendly way to allow tutors to choose nln materials to add to their course from a central repository or do they have to actually upload the same resource to numerous courses.

We are currently using webct and are at a stage where we are thinking (and hoping) to move to moodle, but this seems to be a feature that is missing on moodle that is available in webct and other vles.

Even if the nln materials were added to the "site files" it appears that the tutor can not then add a "resource" from the site files.....or am I wrong here?

I would love to move to moodle but I am stumbling at the thought of many (many!) tutors having to download nln materials from somewhere outside of moodle and then upload them to their course area.  I was hoping they would be able import directly from a central repository of materials via the "add resource" feature......or am I way off the mark here?

I just want a simple (techno-newbie) way of viewing a list of nln materials and then choosing to import some into a course, even if it has to be one by one.  This seems to be the only big niggle for me at the moment.

Many thanks in anticipation of your help.

Peter Worrall -
I am also a new user, working to implement Moodle for a large FE college in North Lincolnshire (North Lindsey College).

We have found the add-on NLN module, which solves the specific problem Julia had with nln materials. BUT.... what about other files that we would like all tutors to be able to access and add to their courses.

We have a large collection of video clips that I was hoping to make available centrally in some form of repository - the aim being that tutors could then access this repository when adding resources to their own courses.

Does anybody know how this can be achieved?

Thanks -

Hi Pete,

One solution would be to use a package called RELOAD, which enables you to bundle materials together in a form which is then readable by the Object module.

RELOAD has been discussed elsewhere on these forums, so if you do a search you should find something about it.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your help. I downloaded RELOAD a couple of weeks ago and have been meaning to look at it as an object authoring tool... but I didn't think of it as a solution for my shared videos problem. I'll get it installed and check it out!

Many thanks -

Hi Julia,

Yes, you want the Object module, which is downloadable from the Moodle site.  It allows one repository to not only serve several courses, but several Moodle installations on the same server (we're currently operating eleven!)

Just wondering if this question was ever answered?

I too have been unable to find how to share files between courses, and have not found an answer as yet on the forums.

Thanks
