bulk parent/mentee upload

bulk parent/mentee upload

I can't find a definitive thread and the docs are a bit sketchy so am going to post the question here:

Have the bulk user upload features in 1.9.2 progressed to the point where additional roles and functions can be addressed (i.e. beyond editingteacher, non-editing teacher and student)?

Since a parent is not role 1,2 or 3, can we even use the bulk upload for parents/mentees?

If we can, what digit do we use to identify that role?

Can we add a couple of fields so that we can identify the associated student?

The Docs indicate that the parent role is applied by course. Is there an easy way to over ride this so it is applied universally between the student and parent/mentee?

Are there particular threads, tracker items or other resources that target the above?

By way of recap/review:

I was able to track down this discussion:
http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=70539&parent=444226
As well as this tracker item eventually:
http://tracker.moodle.org/browse/MDL-15187
The last posting of code proposed to in part address this based on Anthony and Justin's work was a year and a half ago:
http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=70539&parent=349817
And there are folks current considering what to do:
http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=70539&parent=467636

The upshot being that the contextual bulk upload would need development, but the simple parental upload using roles as opposed to types will work but then requires two additional steps, modification of the default parental role and a manual contextual linking.

Hi Marc,

I know you've read the forum posts and am glad to have another voice on board. Assuming you've seen the first parent mass enrollment package created by Anthony, have you tried to make it work? I am stuck on creating an sql table for parents and perhaps you know how to do that? THanks

James
