Hi,

As many of you have found, the new gradebook in Moodle 1.9 contains tons of settings which enable it to be configured in a variety of different ways. wide eyes However, judging by the number of gradebook issues in the tracker, it seems there is still room for improvement, particularly in making the gradebook easier for teachers to use.

To help us decide which gradebook issues should be given priority, please browse the list of list of unresolved 1.9 gradebook issues and/or the list of popular gradebook issues and vote for the ones you'd most like to see fixed. (You will need to create a tracker account and login in order to vote. See the tracker documentation for more details.)

Hi Helen,

Again, I followed your instructions and looked at the tracker. There's a wealth of ideas there but therein lies the problem. Might I suggest an alternative perspective. As the project increases in size and complexity there is a need to categorise issues. Although I'm a relative newcomer to the forums I can see that issues fall into one of 3 areas:

  • bugs - standard coding issues, part of the functioning of the system;
  • taxonomy - what the various elements are called. For example, I've see "outcome" used in three different ways which is fine if you are a developer but less so if you are coming from outside this environment. Part of this is the icon problem I raised earlier;
  • documentation - the Moodle Wiki and associated documentation is good to a point but doesn't really help the end user. This needs to be re-written assuming a user perspective. There's enormous functionality here and the gradebook could be extremely useful but if you can't find your way around then Excel is a faster option (which surely defeats the objective of having the gradebook in the first place).
Perhaps it might help to assign tasks according to their place in the e-learning system rather than their time of arrival.

Regards,

Paul

Hi Paul,

Thanks for your comments.

Tracker issues may be categorised by adding additional components, such as usability (as done for MDL-16103) or documentation (as done for MDL-13702). If you think a particular issue should be categorised as a usability or documentation issue, please add it as a comment. A developer can then edit the issue and add the suggested component, which can then be used when searching for issues.
