I would like to get some recommendations for hosting environments and providers for Moodle. I have not had much luck with GoDaddy and ninehub is great, except I need to have access to all the functionality that they do not provide.
Warmest Regards,
Brad
Hi Brad,
I am fairly new to Moodle, but have my test Moodle sites running successfully on a hosting service. I have some info on my main website at http://www.insmallsteps.com/faq/hosting/ if you want to see what I do.
As you will see, my info there is focused on hosting for Plone, an open source CMS, but I also have sites based in ezpublish and Moodle (both PHP based). The hosting service I use is extremely friendly to people developing sites using Python, PHP, and open source CMS systems. I was thinking of adding a how-to for Moodle, based on my experiences. Moodle is very straight forward and I love it so far. I also like the responsiveness of the customer support from my hosting service... they are very helpful with installation issues and other things. You get a full shell account, so you can login with a terminal program like Putty or FTP client like winSCP3. This lets you install Moodle, transfer files, make adjustments to configuration files, etc.
Anyway, hope that info and link is helpful
Jamie

I created a doc in moodle docs that is intended to include web hosting details.... http://docs.moodle.org/en/web_hosts
As you can see, not much has been done there.... but I do encourage folks to add their experiences to the matrix so tyat there might be a "one stop shop" to obtain this kind of info at moodle.org
