How do I remove groups from people block?

If I have a course with no groups whatsoever, how do I remove the little icon and link to groups from the people block?

In the settings page, select "Group mode: No groups" and "Force: Yes".

Thanks! That wasn't clear from the help item that is associated with it, because it seems to imply that force only applies to forcing groups, not forcing no groups.
