Hi Martin:
Great job on 1.4 The categories and everything else makes this that much better. Everything is working, but I'm getting these odd brackets showing up in a lot of places. They show up before and after some words. Any ideas? Nothing else is experiencing problems. Thanks.

These are what's shown when Moodle can't find a translation string in the English language files.

I've looked at your site, and it seems you're using your own customised set of English files rather than the ones that came with 1.0.4.

Rather than doing this, you should save your customised files under a different directory name (ie not "en", maybe "wb", and set this to be your "language"). You can now use the language tools in the admin to compare "your" language to mine and spot the additions, changes etc that you'll need to update.
