Hello all translators!

I would like to inform you about recent changes and improvements related to various spam related problems. There are several new or updated strings in English language pack.

Here is the list of bugs:
  • MDL-15389 warning about dangers of open profiles (updated configforceloginforprofiles in admin.php)
  • MDL-15544 email signup improvements (updated selfregistration_help in adminp.php)
  • MDL-13796 captcha sign-up support (new strings)
  • MDL-13811 email change confirmation (new strings)
  • MDL-15561 unsubscribe from all forums (new strings)

$string['configforceloginforprofiles'] = 'This setting forces people to login as a real (non-guest) account before viewing any user\'s profile. If you disabled this setting, you may find that some users post advertising (spam) or other inappropriate content in their profiles, which is then visible to the whole world.';

$string['selfregistration_help'] = 'If an authentication plugin, such as email-based self-registration, is selected, then it enables potential users to register themselves and create accounts. This results in the possibility of spammers creating accounts in order to use forum posts, blog entries etc. for spam. To avoid this risk, self-registration should be disabled or limited by <em>Allowed email domains</em> setting.';

We are going to release new versions soon, it is not critical to update all langs but it would be great to include these improvements in as many languages as possible.

Thanks for you all your hard work! smile

There is a mistake in the Petr's post - the string selfregistration_help is in the file auth.php

Thanks, Petr, for notifying us. This should form a policy or a development rule: if anybody for any reason really has to change a string (instead of introducing a new one as is recommended now), should post a notification into this forum.
