Navigation Menu Block - Available for Testing

I have developed a navigation "menu" block that works at both course level and site level.

You can read some info about it and read about how I plan to use it with our Moodle next semester here.

http://www.manythings.org/tesl/moodle/files/menu_site_and_course/

You can see a demo of it in action on the left side of the page here.

http://study.aitech.ac.jp/guest/course/view.php?id=4

If you would be interested installing it and giving me some feedback, please leave a message for me here, http://kelly.reachby.com, and I'll email you a copy of the block.

Charles --

I tried installing this on my test server (1.9) - dropped the menu_course_and_site folder into the blocks folder but the tables are not created when I visit the notifications link. Is there something I am missing?

Menu Block (menu_site_and_course)

by Charles Kelly -
The "menu_site_and_course" block is now listed in the "Modules and plugins" database at moodle.org.

Block: Menu Block (menu_site_and_course)
http://moodle.org/mod/data/view.php?d=13&rid=1216

If you are using the "menu_site_and_course" block, then the following block is also useful.

Block: Admin (Teacher)
http://moodle.org/mod/data/view.php?d=13&rid=1218

Please send bug reports and comments to me via http://kelly.reachby.com rather than post them to this forum. I will get your message much more quickly that way.

===TEMPORARY NOTE
===== (I give permission to the site "admin" to delete this note
===== when it no longer applies.)

If you are reading this forum posting soon after I posted it on March 29, 2008, then you may need to wait a few days until the above link is available.

Since I added this ../mod/data/view.php?d=13&rid=1216 URL as the "Discussion" link to the description, it will be invisible to you until someone at moodle.org approves my editing of the database.

Dear Charles: thanks for developing this block; its specifications look great and it's exactly what our site needs.

I can't get the block to install on our Moodle 1.9 server. I have the same problem as Sherry above. We've installed all three PHP files on our server, in the directory <moodle>/blocks/menu_site_and_course, but when visiting the Admin page and/or clicking on Notifications it doesn't generate the new tables or even display a message about the new block being there.

I've checked the file and directory permissions and they are the same as all the other blocks. I've also been through every point in the Please Help thread for installing contributed blocks. I realise this block is newly released, but I'm also new to installing blocks and I'm hoping it's an obvious mistake of mine that can be corrected.

Please let me know if I can provide more data. I'm looking forward to being of help in posting a general solution, if a problem exists.

Best regards, Robert

Robert,

I did get the block to install on my production site -- I believe I downloaded a second copy (it's been a few weeks since I re-installed). When I set the debugging to "Normal" I see this:

Notice: Undefined property: course in /var/www/vhosts/modelingteachers.org/httpdocs/blocks/menu_site_and_course/block_menu_site_and_course.php31
Notice: Undefined property: course in /var/www/vhosts/modelingteachers.org/httpdocs/blocks/menu_site_and_course/block_menu_site_and_course.php32
Notice: Undefined property: course in /var/www/vhosts/modelingteachers.org/httpdocs/blocks/menu_site_and_course/block_menu_site_and_course.php33
Notice: Undefined variable: level in /var/www/vhosts/modelingteachers.org/httpdocs/blocks/menu_site_and_course/block_menu_site_and_course.php
on line on line on line on line 36

So, I set debugging to "Minimal" and, voila, it goes away (thoughtful).

dear Sherry: I don't know why, but this block had originally installed without anything being displayed in the Notifications page when I first copied the code. Maybe it ran the "cron" script and built the requisite tables. I'll have to check out to see if this is possible. Thanks very much for your reply (the block is working fine now on Moodle 1.9).

best regards, Robert

Hi Charles I'm using your fantastic menu module with 2 moodle sites but one doesn't work properly.

Maybe there is a CSS problem tha you can see on the home page of this address:

http://www.amism-fism.org/web/index.php (on the right we have a bullet point with css error)

Have You got any advice for us?
Thanks so much!
