What can you do with Quick find list?

Like the Quick Find List, this block displays a search box on the page, but instead of searching through users, searches through Courses.  Courses that match the search string can be displayed as:

  • shortname
  • fullname
  • Shortname + fullname
  • Fullname + Startdate course
  • Fullname + Course Category name
  • Shortname + Fullname + Course Category name

Searching course can be done on shortname, Fullname, Course IDnumber.

If Javascript is available, the block will "Find as you type", otherwise a button will be displayed to submit the search.

Will there be a version of this block for Moodle version x.x?

If you'd like to use this block on a later version than the latest release says is supported, try it and see if it works.  There's usually no changes that would affect this block, so it's better to try it and let me know if there's a problem than to ask me if/when there will be an update.

If you want to ensure yourself of a new release, please contact (sales@ltnc.nl) for more information on how you can contribute to the maintaince of this plugin.

    Hi Mark
Very much like your plugin. Just wondering if you have any plans to upgrade it for Moodle 2.6.
    Cheers

Hi Nicholas, I'm not currently working with Moodle as part of my day job, but I'll try and keep it up to date as best I can. Do you have any details about the changes in 2.6 that make it incompatible?

Well Done Mark! Nice, Simple and Does Work Well.

Although have had difficulty to show it to Roles other than Admin/Teacher, but did manage to get it worked reading Thomas's issue, Can this block be made visible to anyone (Like Most Other Blocks) so users don't have to take the step of going into Permissions and over-ride them?

This is an amazing plugin and we would love to use it on our Moodle 2.7 site. Is there any chance that the warnings that appear when used on Moodle 2.7 could be fixed?

    Hi Mikhail,
Please post details of the error messages you see to the Bug Tracker (link is near the top of the page). I'm afraid I'm not actively developing this plugin at the moment, but I might be able to fix the problem if its small (or someone else might do it for you!).

Hello Mark, I am using Moodle 2.9 and I read you gave the Quickcourselist a setting to give it the option to show full course name of short course name, though I cannot find the setting. Can you please assist me? Gemma

Love this plugin, but still like to see some improvement.
I have a number of courses in a hidden category that are only offered to a limited group of users (enrolled by cohort sync). Other users do not see these courses and cannot access these via the catalog either.
When I use this block on the front page, however, and do a search all courses (incl. those in hidden folders) are displayed, despite the enrolment methods.
I was wondering if it is possible to only show search results of courses that you are enrolled in or have the possibility to enroll yourself.

Hi Mark, this plugin is great. My LMS is in English and French, so we use multilanguage tags in our course titles. For example, Intro to Stats would be {mlang en}Intro to stats{mlang}{mlang fr}Intro aux statistiques{mlang}. The plugin doesn't apply any text filtering right now, so in the search results instead of just seeing the results in your language, it repeats the entire marked up output, so {mlang en}Intro to stats{mlang}{mlang fr}Intro aux statistiques{mlang}. Would you be willing to update the plugin to apply text filters?
