Poodll Subtitle is a subtitle editor for audio and video files in Moodle. Simply select the link or player for the audio or video file and click the Poodll Subtitle icon. The media and any existing subtitles will load. Add and edit subtitles, and when ready press the save button. The subtitle file will be saved in the HTML area.

Poodll Subtitle has no dependencies and requires no service subscription. It also works great with Atto Cloud Poodll automatically generated subtitles.

NB. Currently Poodll Subtitle only edits the "caption" track on media players and a single subtitle file on media links. Future versions will add support for multiple subtitle tracks.

Adding Poodll Subtitle to the Atto toolbar

After installing Poodll Subtitle we need to add the word "subtitle" to the Atto toolbar settings in the location that we want it to show.

Do this at: Site administration -> Plugins -> Text editors -> Atto toolbar settings

Now when an Atto HTML editor is displayed the Poodll Subtitle icon should appear in the toolbar at the location set earlier.

Using Poodll Subtitle

Poodll Subtitle will only work when an audio or video file link or player is selected. To select a link it is only necessary to click on the link in the editor. To select a media player you will need to select it with the mouse so that it has a blue selection halo around it.

When the audio/video is selected, and you click on the Poodll Subtitle icon, the subtitle editor will display. If subtitles are already present, they will load. If not the subtitle area will be empty. The subtitle editor can be resized by dragging on it's lower right corner.

The Editor Layout

The editor tile is where all the action happens. The action buttons are described in the diagram below.

Playing audio/video files with subtitles

Not all video players can play subtitles, and most audio players cannot. The Poodll filter has a range of video players and some audio players that can.  Poodll video and audio players will display subtitles IF the video or audio was embedded as a media link.

The Moodle multi media plugins filter in Moodle defaults to using Video JS for audio and video. Moodle's Video JS player will display subtitles for video and audio IF the video or audio was embedded as a media player.

Hello Justin, this one looks amazing tool! Thank you!

I am wondering though, if it's possible to "highlight" words as the voice goes on. Like in the karaoke...

Hi Anna. This is possible. You need to use either the Poodll filter or the VideoEasy filter. But this page is an example of how it can look (for audio):

Hello Jastin, can we create captions in Arabic? Or it works only with Latin alphabet?

    Hi Pete,

Are you using the Poodll subtitle editor? This is a plugin for editing subtitles. If you are not editing subtitles with Poodll, you are better to post your query in the forums. You will get more people looking at it, and more appropriate responses.
If you are using Poodll subtitle editor
.. you would just translate each entry line by line. Or you could use the export feature to translate the whole file and then the import feature to bring it back in again. Poodll subtitle really just expects one captions track, its not really set up for multiple subtitle tracks,.

If you are no using Poodll subtitle editor
.. Post again in the main forums. And add more information including ... How are you using Google Translate? Do you mean in the Google Chrome browser? Or do you go the Google translate page and enter the URL?
Where are the subtitles coming from? Did you make them? Are they already on the videos ... where are the videos coming from? Are we talking about Vimeo or Youtube or CloudPoodll hosted videos + subtitles .. or did you upload subtitles and videos to Moodle directly?
And are you actually creating and editing subtitles, or just wondering why Google won't auto translate what you are seeing in your browser?
