Patsy,
"After someone restarted the server, all of the resource names disappeared."
It's possible that some of the activity and resource modules have been hidden. When in editing mode, can you see all the activity and resource modules in the "Add a resource / Add an activity" pull down menus, that you could see before the server was restarted? If not, go to the admin page, then click on 'Modules' and then 'un-hide' the hidden modules.

Simon,
I had students with a similar problem: could login in school but not at home. It turned out that the firewall on their Microsoft systems was the problem. All they needed to do, was turn this off, login to moodle, and then turn the firewall back on.
You said that your students, "have gone through the options and set all Security, Privacy and the Advanced features to Default". My guess is that the default setting for the firewall is on.
Hope this helps.

Hello Bob,
"I wonder why the second problem happened? All of the numerical data (for ratings of 1 - 5) dissapears?"
What version of the questionnaire module are you using? Disappearing data for 'rating' items was a bug in an old version. The latest version solves this problem.
Have a look at this thread:

You need to give a little more detail about your problem. In particular:
Adding images to moodle activities is the same for all modules when the HTML editor is used. The procedure is as follows:
You need to give a little more detail about your problem. In particular:
- have you uploaded picture to the course 'Site Files'?
- what action have you taken to try and insert a picture?
- at what stage in the process did things appear to go wrong?
- did you get any error messages?

- once you have the HTML editor in front of you, click on the location within the editing frame in which you want the image to appear
- then, click on the
'Insert image' icon, which should be on the second row of the HTML editor - a dialogue box will open, in which you will be able to navigate the files you've uploaded to the Site Files directory. Locate your image and click on it
- then click on OK, and all being well you image will have been embeded into your text.
Karl,
If you have done what Daniel has suggested and still can't see the modules, it is probably because they have been hidden.
From the top page, click on 'Admin...', then on 'Modules'. You will then be able to make hidden modules visible. You need to be an administrator to do this.
