It's always a good idea to give details about the problem you're experiencing, For example, what are the warnings you are getting?
My guess is that, as you suggest, it's a problem of a new verson of PHP 'clashing' with your adodb.inc.php file.
This is a common problem, and a search for 'adodb.inc.php' will unearth the solution. For example:
http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=31589
and this
http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=34571
and this
http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=27453

I have just successfully installed the 'course_menu' block created by Humboldt State University, and downloaded from:
http://cdc.humboldt.edu/moodle/course/view.php?id=3&topic=1%20alt=Blocks
I followed the instructions in the readme.txt:
Did this not work? If not, please describe exactly what you did, and also state what moodle version you are using, as well as php version. The more information the better.

I followed the instructions in the readme.txt:
Put the folder course_menu inside your moodle/blocks directory and visit your admin page.
Put the lang files in your lang directory.
If you install block_quickmail_1.5, an 'Email students' link will show up in the control panel.
If you install block_course_program, links for setting course visibility dates and due dates will show up in your control panel.
If you don't install these blocks, they won't show up and the control panel will function fine without them.
Let us know if you have any problems.

Are you using Dfwiki? If so, I do recognise this problem. Have a look at my message here:
http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=34871#161818
Is this what happens with you?
As you can see by the replies to my message, the dfwiki people are looking in to the problem.
What browser, OS and Moodle are you using?

Hello,
Does any one else have this problem with DFWIKI, IE for Windows and the HTML editor? There is no space to type!

I have been using DFwiki for a few weeks (version 2005111501) on my Mac with no big problems. So last week I set up a dfwiki for my colleagues, and have just discovered from one of them that the HTML editor does not display properly. On her machine (windows 2000, IE6) a simple editor box appears, much as if the HTML editor had been turned off, which it hasn't. Futhermore, the blocks take up more than half the screen!
When I accessed the dfwiki via a similar windows system and the same version of IE, I can can see the HTML editor buttons (see above), but there's no where to type. However, the problem of the blocks taking up hald the screen is not replicated. The DFwiki editor appears correctly on both my colleague's and my Windows machine,
My guess is that;
Perhaps the latest verion of dfwiki has fixed this problem?
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.
moodle version = 1.5.2 +

My guess is that;
- dfwiki has not been properly configured to work with Win IE, or
- there are some settings in IE that need to be changed
