Hello Annerie. So to confirm, you went to Site administration > Users > Define roles and clicked on Student and then Reset? And you did the same with the Authenticated user role, again clicking on Reset?
Also can you confirm you said your course has guest access?

Hello Anon Anon. (You're welcome to change your name to a real name if you want but no pressure smile ) FIrst of all - Moodle Academy - good idea to do the courses on there - the Moodle Admin Basics and the Moodle Teaching Basics program. I suspect what you're saying about the 'bot' thing is that you might have tried to post several times in succession in a forum or you might have posted too many links and when new users do that, our spambot alerts us because, to be fair, it's what a lot of spammers do. You would have got a message with a code in it to send to theMoodle contact form so we can unblock your account. (Try accessing your account again on Moodle Academy and see if it works now.)

All the things you want to do you can do with Moodle; you just need some experience and to learn how to do them. For example:
  • You can have a quiz with random questions so that each person gets a different selection of questions  and the questions change each time. BUT it's up to you to make lots and lots of questions.
  • Tutors (and you can change their title to tutors on your site ) can manage their own courses and organise them as they want.
  • You can allow payments for courses
  • Although not in standard Moodle, there are ways to restrict access to a course until you have finished the previous one and you can in standard Moodle restrict access to teaching materials until you have finished the previous one.
  • As for upgrades, you could get a hosted Moodle (for example MoodleCloud) so you don't have to do the upgrades; someone else does.

The block's name is course_list and if you are using Boost you need to remove it from the Unneeded blocks list in Site administration > Appearance > Themes > Boost. Then you will be able to choose it from the block drawer where it displays as 'Courses'. And incidentally, it only shows as Course categories to you the admin and to anyone who is not yet enrolled in any courses.Once enrolled in courses, the block becomes My courses and shows just enrolled courses.
