1. create the first instance of the course,
   
2. back it up,
   
3. restore it to create additional instances of the course and
4. tweak as desired

Thank you for posting this. I am sure it will be a valuable resource for many Moodlers. I am an Articulate Presenter fan, so it is certainly interesting to me.

Perhaps you would like to add it to the official docs - http://docs.moodle.org. That might make it a bit easier to find.

As far as problems uploading via Moodle is concerned, I have not encountered this myself, so I am curious about it. When you say that it does not work very well, do you mean the file is corrupted in some way during uploading? Or that the browser stalls during the upload process, perhaps?

Good question. comes up a lot.

One way you can do this is to use backup and restore to grab only certain resources and activities from a course. I think what you want is closer to this, though - http://docs.moodle.org/en/Import_course_data
