Hi guys,

I've just recently downloaded and installed Xampp on my Mac. Yuo can see below where phpMyAdmin is. I think it's the same on Windows.

I do find it confusing to have several files with the same name - but it's not specific to Xampp.

Hi Gary,

Then, no Groups/Grouping won't do what you want.

What does OO-type mean in your message? I assume it doesn't mean: "The part of the oviduct of certain trematode worms in which the ova are completed and furnished with a shell. ..." And problably not OpenOffice either. Maybe "object orientated"?  pentsakor

Perhaps what you want is missing in Moodle, but looks like you have the skill to make it do what you want.

Cheers,

Glenys

Moodle in English -> Roles and permissions -> Two courses, one content -> Re: Two courses, one content

Glenys Hanson -

Hi Gary,

Groups/Groupings will do just that.

  1. You create your "realtime area" (in Moodlespeak a "Course") and call it:  Course c10.
  2. You fill it up with Activities and Resources
  3. Then in Course c10 you create Groups/Groupings and call them: c10a, c10b, c10c, etc. and allocate Teachers and Students to them.
  4. In each Group/Grouping the teachers (probably Non-editing Teachers) and Students do their own stuff: write in Forums, create Wikis, do Quizzes, hand in Assignments, etc. that only they can see.
  5. When a Teacher (that is, an editing teacher) adds, modifies or deletes an Activity or Resource to Course c10, then that Activity or Resource is added, modified or deleted in Groups/Groupings c10a, c10b, c10c, etc.
  6. Any modification of the course settings of Course c10 will be applied to Groups/Groupings c10a, c10b, c10c, etc.

That's what you want, isn't it?

Cheers,

Glenys

Again, the words beginning with a capital letter all have specific meanings  in Moodlespeak.

Hi Gary and Julius,

Maybe there's a vocabulary problem between what Moodle calls a "course" and what is called a "course" by students and  teachers outside Moodle.

In Moodle, a "Course" is an area in which a "Teacher" can insert, in a logical order, a number of "Resources" and "Activities".

If there are no "Groups" or "Groupings" all the "Teachers" and "Students" in a course area can "see" each other.

If the teacher sets up "Groups" and "Groupings," sets of "Students" and "Teachers" can be totally isolated from each other: they are all using the same "Resources" and "Activities" but not aware of the presence of people in the other "Groups/Goupings". From the the student's point of view the course is their "Group/Grouping" - they don't need to know these words - for them, they're just in Course c10a or Course c10b, each with their respective teacher (who can be the same or different in each Group/Grouping).

To be honest, it took me a little while to get my head around the idea of Moodle "Groups" and "Grouping" and to work out how to set them up but there are the Moodle Docs and video tutorials too. For example:
