Hi Martin,
Could you explain a bit more why TaskChain/QuizPort won't be part of Moodle 2.0 core but Hotpot will? I had understood from what I'd read on Helen Foster's blog (Developer meetings, Moodle 2.0 on September 21, 2009 ) that TaskChain would be part of Moodle 2.0.
"Our online developer meeting last Friday was packed with demonstrations of new features coming in Moodle 2.0, including [...], the TaskChain module, a replacement for the HotPot module (thanks to Gordon Bateson), [...]"
There seems to have been a change in policy since September, why?
I've been making Hot Potatoes exercises for many years and my Moodle courses can consist of up to 80% of Hot Potatoes content so naturally I'd like to be sure they'll continue to work.
I've been experimenting with QuizPort in live classes and feel very enthusiastic about it but I have to admit it's a steep learning curve for a newbie.
The big problem for me, and a lot of ordinary teachers, is that we're not often administrators of the Moodle sites we work on and many administrators refuse to install non-core modules.
On my wish list would be Hotpot Module for newbies, because it's so easy to use, and TaskChain/QuizPort for people who want more possibilities. In the same way I'd like to have both Feedback and Questionnaire, Ouwiki and Nwiki. I mean one module that's quick and easy to learn for newbies but rather limited and another that has much greater possibilities but takes longer to learn how to use.
Am I asking for too much?
Cheers,
Glenys

Hi Carol,
- There is no charge for using QuizPort itself but it you want it to be included in the the backup and restore files of a Moodle course there is a one-timecharge. Gordon explained earlier in this discussion,
Sure, you can use Moodle's backup and restore scripts to copy single Moodle activities, including QuizPort, in this way.
One catch, the downloadable QuizPort zip file does not contain the backup and restore scripts. I will send them to you if you purchase a QuizPort license:
- individual teacher license: $50
- institution license: $300
If you would like to do that please send me a private email:

- For your last two points, I think this discussion makes it clear: Moodle 2 / TaskChain schedule that previously created Hot Potatoes exercises will automatically be transformed into QuizPort/TaskChain exercises and will continue to work in Moodle 2.0.

Hi Robert,
No, I was wrong: it's not the scores going down: it's the number of "mistakes" left to be found. Except that they're not "mistakes" but "answers"in for example your Restaurant Reviews exercise.
I've sent you an email with screenshots to show what's happening.
I've also sent you the settings I use for "traditional" Find the mistake and Correct the mistake exercises. The standard JClose feedback messages don't fit what happens in Find-It.
You'll have to experiment to see what fits your Quiz exercise.
Cheers,
Glenys
PS I'd be happy to send my Find-It settings to anyone that's interested.

Hi Robert,
Thanks for letting us see those exercises. It's really original to use Find-It to create a quiz where you can only get correct answers. I have some questions though:

- Why does the score start high and then go down a point with each correct answer? Is that your decision, or something Find-It is doing automatically?
- Why at the end do you get the message "The next correct letter has been added to the answer"? Or is it just you haven't had time to customise the messages yet? I found it quite tricky to get the feedback messages appropriate for Find-It.

Hi Robert,
I haven't had any problems with Find-It a or b in most recent versions of QuizPort but I'd love to see your exercises. I can't imagine what you're doing "when all the distractors are in a table". Could you tell me if and when you upload them to Gordon's site or if there's somewhere else I could see them?
Cheers,
Glenys
