Missatges enviats per Glenys Hanson

Hi there,

For around 5 days now at this time of day/night moodle.org has been down for long periods. I'm sure the people at HQ are working on the problem. Would just like them to tell us what it is? Then we'll find it easier to be patient. Gran somriure

Cheers,

Glenys

PS Should I create an issue in the Tracker?

Moodle in English -> Hotpot (plugin) -> TaskChain testing in Moodle 2.3

per Glenys Hanson -

Hi Gordon,

I've been enjoying myself doing some testing of TaskChain and discovering Moodle 2.3 in the process. I just love them both!

I've created two TaskChains of the same set of exercises (100-900) on your site:

(For understanding how Repositories work I'm very grateful to Mary Cooch making it comprehensible to people like me in the Moodle docs: File system repository) lots of screenshots so I can see. Somrient

On your site they both work pretty well except that one of the audio players don't work. I'm using both what I think is Bernard Dyer's  hbs_mp3_player2_1px_narrow slider.swf (second exercise "Audio") - this doesn't work and Dewplayer (3rd exercise "Ordering") which does work.

There are only 3 exercises (Written, Audio, Ordering) the 4 tasks at the end are tutorials embedded in the exercises. I can easily delete them via Edit tasks but maybe there's a way I could have stopped them appearing. Pensatiu

On my local Zampp server things are not so good:

  • On the Repository version, at the beginning I get the neat list of exercises: "Please choose one of the following", but in the Private files version it jumps straight to the first exercise.
  • In both versions I see neither the image nor audio files (though I'm sure I did when I first started experimenting) Pensatiu

In these files I've tried to describe, step-by-step what I did. Hope you can spot, Gordon, where I'm going wrong.

Cheers,

Glenys

In Edit chains, when I click on the name of an exercise I see this message: edit field: name(1) (I don't know how to get the correct brackets on a Mac keyboard).

-------

When I clicked on Private files version > Overview, I got this message:

Hi Gerald,

I've just replied to you privately, but as Moodle.org seems to be OK for the moment, I'll put it here too:

"You made me laugh! I'm not a genius, just a person who's made a lot of mistakes and learnt from some of them.

By the way, the warning (about not practising on a live site) was not addressed to you but to others less experienced who might read the post.

For teachers to try out, I make a Book version with the original Hot Potatoes navigation. That is, I do when I have the time to make alternative versions of everything."

QuizPort/TaskChain has a huge number of possible settings - I don't think anyone but Gordon masters them all and their interrelated implications. Doesn't mean, though,  that they can't easily be used with just the default settings.

Cheers,
Glenys

Hi again,

Because of the recent instability of Moodle.org, my previous message was sent out without the following screenshot:

When you open the dropdown menu "All" refers to all the courses on your Moodle site, not to all the all the exercises/quizzes in a QuizPort. On the Moodle site of my association "Grammar" is just one of several courses.

Moodle in English -> General help -> authoring tool -> Re: authoring tool

per Glenys Hanson -

Hi there,

If you're strapped for cash, Jing is free and Snagit only costs about 50 €.

On Mac, Camtasia is less than 100 € - very reasonable. My exeperience is more limited than Marcus's  - but if you intend to do a lot of screen recording, I'd recommend Camtasia too, even at the Windows price of about 300 €.

Cheers,

Glenys
