Hi Gordon,

Nice analogy with kids playing soccer. Gran somriure

So sad that many teachers still don't understand the difference between learning activities and testing activities. The dominant model is still: present a body of information and then test to see if students can regurgitate it. How students manage to do so and whether they have real insight and know-how is not always seen as the teacher's responsibility.

But I don't despair - I do see more and more teachers who are evolving...

Hi there,

I agree with Gordon. Hot Potatoes were designed as learning exercises, not as a testing tool, so the fact that answers could be discovered by very technically sophisticated students in the code is irrelevant to their purpose.

It's possible to import Hot Potatoes into Quiz which works better as a testing tool but, as many discussions on the Moodle forums have shown, total security is just not possible on tests delivered over the Internet without dedicated servers and human invigilators in the room with the students. And even then...

Hi Pablo,

I haven't used NanoGong for a long time and can't really add to what I wrote in these tutorials years ago:

PDF document Instructions for installing NanoGong Activity on Moodle 1.9.11.pdf
PDF document Instructions for installing NanoGong HTMLArea on Moodle 1.9.11.pdf
PDF document Instructions for installing the NanoGong Assignment Type on Moodle 1.9.pdf

I don't know gnomio either. If your account doesn't allow you to add plugins/modules to Moodle, you can't install NanoGong. I can install it locally on my hard disk where I have a local server, Xampp, but online I have to ask my host to.

Have you done a Google search to find out the latest updates for NanoGong and Moodle?

NanoGong is very good but there are other possibilities: have you looked at Poodll?

I strongly advise ugrading to Moodle 2.3. or at least to Moodle 1.9.19. Moodle 1.9.7 is very old and not supported any more. I would also advise not using a free host if you're going to work with real students: there are cheap host who will give you some support.

Glenys

Hi Mary,

I'm still on Moodle 1.9 too. I put that sort of stuff in a html block (bottom, left) visible on all main course pages (but not on forum pages, glossary pages, etc.) See: http://uepd.quizport.com

Not completely satisfactory. I feel it should be at the bottom of every single page. If anyone has a better solution I'd be glad to know too.

Cheers,

Glenys

Bonsoir Daniel,

Glenys
