Moodle in English -> Installing and upgrading help -> Moodle4Mac MySql won't start

- Glenys Hanson の投稿

Hi there,

I've been running Moodle on a Xampp server with no problems for years on both Mac and Windows but in the last few weeks MySql has refused to start. Same on Mamp and Wamp.

I just downloaded Moodle4Mac but the same thing happens: XamppErrorDomain error 1

I've turned off Skype, set the permissions to Read & Write and to the enclosed folders for myself, system, admin and everyone.

I've searched on the internet and gather it's a frequent problem but I don't really understand the suggestions: there are several different propositions of code to put in the terminal. I'm afraid of making the problem worse but putting in the wrong code.

I'm on Mac OS X 10.8.4 and Windows 7.

Cheers,

Glenys

Moodle in English -> Book -> Hot Potatoes images not showing in Book

- Glenys Hanson の投稿

Hi there,

I've just been upgraded to Moodle 2.5 from 1.9.19.

I was pleasantly surprised to realise guests could view and do Hot Potatoes exercises in Book without having to create an account.

The exercises seem to work just fine, but most of the images don't show.

For example here: http://uepd.quizport.com/pluginfile.php/6831/mod_book/chapter/335/limericks/01_niger_sch.htm one image shows but two don't.

Can you suggest a solution?

Cheers,

Glenys

Moodle in English -> Hotpot (plugin) -> Which repository to use?

- Glenys Hanson の投稿

Hi there,

In the past, I've felt in control by having each of my Hot Pot exercises in a folder along with all its related files: audio, video, images.... The links from the Hot Pot exo to the media files were all relative. I've been able to easily move these folders around from one server to another, to display the exo on Moodle or elsewhere, through the HotPot module, or QuizPort or Book. All the links worked everywhere.

Now I gather, I should be doing things differently by using a repository, or maybe several repositories. I've already been doing this with my Flash videos: I've uploaded them to YouTube and inserted them from there with an absolute link. That's been fine - I have relatively few videos - and YouTube seems likely to be around for a long time. However, I've got far more images and sound files and I'm not sure how to manage them elegantly, easily and not to have to redo all the links in the foreseeable future.

I've tried to display my Hot Pot exercises in Book on Moodle 2.4 and none of the media files appeared (they did in TaskChain). I'm experimenting with Stan's suggestion for using the JW Player for displaying a playlist in a Hot Potatoes exo. There too the playlist code requires an absolute link.

There are so many repositories (Moodle doc Repositories lists 13) I've no idea which one(s) to choose. What have other people done? What suggestions do you have - in particular as regards future proofing?

Cheers,

Moodle in English -> Hotpot (plugin) -> Stan's HotPotatoes Add-ons

Hi Martin,

I've started a new discussion because your questions "how did you implement Stan´s css? Did you substitute the standard css on the hotpot module ? Did you upload the *.htm file instead of hotpot´s jxx? Has Gordon somehow integrated Stan´s CSS into the taskchain module?" don't relate to the other discussion.

I went to Stan's HotPotatoes Add-ons page and downloaded his css3_Facelift (391) v1.5. for HotPotatoes. It includes a helpful PDF. If you haven't modified source files before, you should first read:

The set of exercises around the video Working at your desk that you've seen on Gordon's site also include other modifications to the source files. These modifications are not really mine: Martin Holmes, Gordon Bateson and others have shown me how to to get the effects I want over the years. I'm willing to share - just say what interests you.

Yes, I uploaded the *.htm file. No, I don't think Gordon has integrated Stan's css_facelift code into TaskChain. These things are a question of taste and though at the moment most of us love rounded, shadowed corners, no doubt the flavour of the month will be something quite different in a couple of years' time. Gordon can't keep changing his code to follow fashion.

Cheers,

Glenys
