Did you enable sub levels for searching in the tree?

Maybe you can narrow the accounts you want to sync from the LDAP-server? I believe you can make a subselection in the objectclass field of the LDAP-server configuration. It's important only to sync the real users in your LDAP tree and exclude the 'garbage' that may cause these kind of problems.

Did you test the LDAP connection first and could you login into Moodle with your LDAP authentication activated? Test it with 1 user first, change auth in mdl_user table in 'ldap' for 1 test-user and try to login with your LDAP credentials on the LDAP server. If that works you can try a sync, the fact that no users are returned from the sync job means that your settings (data mapping or the LDAP parameters) are not correct.
