Hello,
You do not say which method you are using to insert images in your quiz questions. If, using the HTML editor you click on the Insert Image button and point to an image file present in your course's file, then the image will be displayed to the students.
Are you using another method? Which one?

Russ > Solved it myself! The culprit is the "display review button" setting (hereafter DRB).

Good detective work, Russ.cool You did find the culprit. Here are my tests of the DRB setting (using Moodle 1.6.3 stable). Just using one ordinary MCQ question for this test.

Here are the results of my tests with these lesson settings for Flow control..

  • Allow student review: No
  • Display review button: Yes
  • Maximum number of attempts: 3

Attempt 1: student makes incorrect choice
Feedback displayed: "Unfortunately you cannot earn this one point, because your response was not correct. Would you like to keep guessing, just for the sheer joy of learning (but for no point credit)?"
Available buttons:
Yes, I'd like to try again
No, I just want to go on to the next question
Notice: You have 2 attempt(s) remaining
NOTE.-
If the teacher entered some feedback text in the Response field for that incorrect choice, it is not displayed to the student.
Student clicks on the Yes, I'd like to try again button

Attempt 2:
student makes incorrect choice again
Feedback displayed: "Not quite. Would you like to try again?"
Available buttons:
Yes, I'd like to try again
No, I just want to go on to the next question
Notice: You have 1 attempt(s) remaining
Student clicks on the Yes, I'd like to try again button

Attempt 3: student makes incorrect choice again
Feedback displayed: "Not quite. Would you like to try again?"
Available buttons:
Yes, I'd like to try again
No, I just want to go on to the next question
(Maximum number of attempts reached - Moving to next page)
Student clicks on the Yes, I'd like to try again button ... and is allowed to make another attempt; in fact is allowed to make as many attempts as he wants (but will not get the grade for this question).

Note.- If after Attempts 1 and 2 the student clicks on the
No, I just want to go on to the next question button, the lesson does not move to the next question until he has reached the Maximum number of attempts allowed for this lesson, instead, the same question is displayed again.

Conclusion: at the moment, the DRB setting a) overrides the display of negative feedback messages and b) does not take into account a maximum attempts number greater than 1.

How can we get the DRB setting to work more logically?
The easiest solution would be to warn the teachers that there is an incompability between DRB being set at Yes and
Maximum number of attempts set at anything else than 1. Such a warning should be added to the online help for the DRB button, such as:

Display Review Button

This will display a button after an incorrectly answered question, allowing a student to re-attempt it. It is not compatible with essay questions, so leave this off if you are using essay questions. It is not compatible with Maximum number of attempts set at anything greater than 1.

Hi Russ,
What about posting the whole text of your troublesome question to this thread? Including the general Lesson settings, the score (if any), the question text, answers text, feedback text, Jump to... etc. Oh, and Moodle version too.
Other than that it's a matter of wild guess for us and we can't help.wink

Hi Lane,
You do not mention which platform nor which browser you are using.sad Anyway, for me Formal Blue does not work under Windows XP with FireFox 2, but it works OK with MS Internet Explorer 7, except for the calendar which looks as shown on attached screenshot. Is this the problem you are talking about?
