Not quite sure what you mean. Do you want the dictation to be done by the students within a Moodle Quiz? Using maybe the Essay question type?
If so, then the "correct text" could be displayed in one of the Feedbacks available for Quiz, but you'd have to carefully set the Quiz settings to obtain what you want.

Hi Mike,

I am well aware of the bug you mention, which I reported in CONTRIB-1128. I have found a fix, which is currently not implemented, pending Mike's approval.

If you have access to your Moodle files then you can use the patch I provided (in CONTRIB-1128) and report here if it works, which would help us fix things.

I totally agree that this is a standard functionality in internet forums and should be included in Moodle forums. However this has been discussed in the past and the general consensus among moodlers at the time seemed to be that such functionality would "go against the general Moodle socio-constructivist philosophy".

However, the topic has been revived recently; you may be interested in this thread: Moodle Forum that allows subscription by discussion thread and vote for MDL-1626.
