Thanks, John for your reply. I think I figured it out. We create usernames with the first initial of the first name and the full last name. I have a concatenate field set up to for this. Then we "paste values" into a new column marked "username" and then delete the concatenate formula field and convert the sheet to CSV. The person who uploaded the file is new and I think she had something incorrect in the concatenate field before she converted. Because it was creating a username that was the first initial and the email. Mystery solved, I believe! Best, Bonnie

We uploaded (as we've been doing for a while) usernames, etc. and left the password field blank so Moodle would trigger an automatic email to users with their username and password. But it took the email as the username instead.
Here's a screencast of the sheet with a sample student:

Any idea why Moodle would take the email address as the username? And any way to fix this without wreaking havoc? I thought email addresses were not advised for usernames?
I am in the same boat - this is very disconcerting because we rely on the daily digest and a lot of our activities are forums. Students and teachers start to feel like they're missing out without this. Any clue of what's going on? Is this a bug?
Hi Rick,
I just voted on this - I think it's best if we can prevent duplicate posts directly like you mention. Thanks for creating an issue in Moodle Tracker!
Hi all,
We're moving our Moodle site to a new domain AND upgrading from 2.3.4 to 2.5.2. We don't yet have a list of all the core user test cases. Do you have a list /document of core user test cases that you use to test that all functions are working for your teachers, admins, students? Are you willing to share it? It would help us start the project with some of the basics documented. Happy to share/post back for others our final document too.
Thanks for considering! Best, Bonnie
