It's quite often the database that I come unstuck with. I've completely given up trying to do in place database upgrades. Dump the data, delete the old version, install the new version, restore the data. Only way I trust.

We seem to have a problem with the statistics report page taking several minutes to load (or timing out). The quiz I am looking at now only has 11 attempts so it seems odd.
I don't know much (well, anything) about quiz statistics so I'm unsure what it's doing but is this a known issue? Are there any fixed or remedies.
I haven't done anything beyond confirming the problem at this stage.

I've said it before... that's because it's not installing Word on a Desktop. It just isn't. It's unavoidable to understand a bit about web server administration.
I'm not familiar with Windows but that means your browser is pointing to the default web server page and not Moodle. It could be as simple as if you installed the code in a subdirectory called 'moodle' then put /moodle on the end of the URL.
