Just for the avoidance of doubt - this does NOT mean that it lives in a sub-directory of Wordpress. Use virtual-directories or whatever your web server software calls them.

Be VERY careful that Moodle and WordPress are organised as separate installs. WordPress's .htaccess file will break Moodle completely

That's not how upgrading works in Moodle. You have to replace the code with the latest version yourself. That script (just) does the database migrations (and similar).
