It depends on the exact nature of the quiz but, if your installation is at all marginal, quiz is the very thing to slow it down. Or even kill it completely.

To my mind, the thing to do is to monitor everything you can monitor see establish where the "pinch point" is.

Yeh - we run both integrations. To be honest, I can never remember which is which, what the differences are and which to recommend using.

It's - shall we say - an unhelpful situation. I wish the parties involved would get their acts together on this one.

Enrolling students and assigning them to a role are two different things. To fully "enrol" somebody in a course, you need to do both. This is what the Enrol button on the Participants page does.

As you've found, it's possible to skip the enrol step and assign users a role in the course, only. There are some use-cases for this but they are *very* rare and you would probably know.

I'm not sure what to say. There's no "script or code" in there. How is your Moodle hosted? How did you install Moodle in the first place?

It's highly unlikely that you don't have some sort of provision for taking backups.
