It can be a substantial task 'cloning' a plugin. The 'Frankenstyle' name will be used all over the place. The main result is that you no longer benefit from updates to the underlying plugin. So that certainly wouldn't be my first thought.

Setting up Cron should not be seen as optional. Moodle isn't going to work properly and/or fully without it.

I'm going to mention the "Elephant in the room". The new UI is truly terrible.

Worse... moving categories with the blue arrow and moving categories by selecting them and using the "Move" button right at the bottom of the page does something entirely different. And how would you know?
