Honestly - I have read the documentation for Natural weighting about 5 times and have absolutely no clue how it works / what it does. We don't use it so it's never really been an issue.

Can anybody else (with a bigger brain than me) shed any light on this?

Can you confirm your aggregation settings? Aggregation strategy (natural, I assume), drop lowest, exclude empty grades and so on?

 

Have you ticked 'extra credit' for any of the grades?

You can't

If it goes over the web then it can be recorded. It's not Moodle, it's the way the Internet works. If simply downloading your materials is a problem to your business model then I might respectfully suggest that your business model may be the problem.

Site administration > Plugins > Manage authentication, tick "Limit concurrent logins". Note that it will annoy legitimate users at times.

I would try to do it through the user interface before you resort to directly manipulating the database.

If this is a separate plugin and it supports all the Moodle versions you require, then probably.
