You may just have to "get over" that. I'm pretty sure that they don't care about your student's documents.

However, here's another thought. Don't make it a requirement in the first place. All word processors can export PDF these days. Require that your students only submit PDFs. It won't hurt them.

I'll save you some time. Don't use unoconv. Even if you get it working it won't stay working. As the whole thing is single-threaded the first time it hangs with a problem (which is often) you'll need to manually restart it. It's entirely unsuitable for production use.

We use it but somebody else supports it. I wasn't motivated enough to keep going
