MPG, Quicktime, WMV etc are already treated similarly by the mediaplugins filter, except the browser's normal plugins are used instead. Flash can't play these formats (it can only play its own Flash Video format).
Actually, the old one started downloading the MP3 straight away too, which is probably the best in almost all situations, I think.
