I just fixed another little thing that had been bothering me for a long time - anyone could reset someone else's password from the login screen if they now the other person's email address.
The new scheme now sends a confirmation email first, containing a coded link. Clicking on the link then causes the password to be changed and mailed out as before.
This should prevent a possibility of annoyance by troublemakers.

Cool - that would be great.
A good place to work on these would be in the Moodle Wiki. http://moodle.org/wiki

A statement of fact? No, just a joke by the author in the absence of any better documentation. (See this link about some moves to improve the documentation for beginners on any platform http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=1163)
Good luck with porting the database setup to MS SQL - if you send me the additional files I can add them to the distribution.

As far as I could tell when I looked into this (there is a hot debate about it on the php mailing list) there's no risk whatsoever.

Unfortunately I don't know of any personally (but perhaps others would like to share their knowledge about this).
Have you considered setting Moodle up on your own computer? Or does the school have a computer always on the network? It doesn't have to be too fancy.
