After you upgraded the files did you visit the admin page to complete the upgrade?

Yes (but only for the admin). It does that in case you want to add things to it.

Getting rid of everything in it should make it disappear.

To get rid of the News forum, you need to disable News on the site page (ie set it to show a list of courses instead), then delete the News forum when in editing mode (use the little X).

My friend, you are a lucky man - I just added hide/show topics/weeks, so it will be in 1.0.9.

It was easier than Eloy's hide/show activities, because it builds on it. When you hide a topic, all the activities it contains are also marked hidden. Likewise, when you show a topic, all of the activities it contains are shown.

The same Wiki routine has now been added to the system-wide formats (forums, journals etc).
