JMatch with images

Can images that work in the stand-alone Hot Potatoes htm file be used in the Hot Pot Module?

I am a newbie to Moodle and Hot Potatoes. I am using Moodle 1.9.1.

I just made my first JMatch using images on the right side. It makes a fine htm using local files. Is there a way I can have this work in the Hot Pot module? It just shows the title of the image file. I used local files and suspect that if I had these files in some web space it would work fine. I thought I would as here first for what is the best approach.

Thanks,
Jeff

Hi there

There are several ways you can do this. One way is to upload the images first to your course file space in Moodle and then to link to them on your hotpotatoes file (select the image in Moodle; right click and see properties and copy the url) Then when you upload the hotpotatoes file and it should 'find' the image.

Mary,

Yeah, I was kind of figuring that would be the case as I wrote the post. I was curious if there some simpler way.

Thanks,
Jeff

Hello Jeff,
I've had no problem with JMatch exercises with pictures in Moodle. I create the exercises in the normal way with JMatch with all the pictures in the same folder. I zip up the folder including the images, upload it to "files" in Moodle, unzip it and create the HP activity. I don't have to do anything special about the images. Same with audio and video files.

Cheers,
Glenys

Yes. Definitely yes.

Yes. Absolutely yes.

There are several reasons this might be happening.
Please check the following thread for ideas:

You do have some web space - the "Files" area of your Moodle course wink. As long as you upload your images to your Moodle course, along with your Hot Potatoes htm file, you should be fine.

As Glenys says, the easiest way to do what you want to do is keep the images in the same folder as your quiz. Then once you are sure it works on your local machine, zip up the entire folder (including the image files), upload the zip file to your Moodle course, unzip it there and add a new HotPot activity which uses the Hot Potatoes htm file (or jqz file) as it source file.

Mary suggested a more long-winded solution, which is only necessary if your images are in a different Moodle course from your Hot Potatoes quiz file, and even then it will only work if your students have access to both courses.

If you continue to have problems, please upload the quiz and images to my server, so that we can look at them together.
cheers
Gordon

Glenys' zip method worked fine. Thanks all. Now I have to get the alignment centered. But I think I saw on posting on that here somewhere. I will have to do some spelunking on that.

Thanks again,
Jeff
