Please help a novice - restrict display of courses based on username

Dear friends,

We are using version 1.8.3 of moodle. My boss wants me to set up our moodle so that someone who logs in and is registered for English, for example, will see only the English courses - and not the other courses. Or someone who logs in and is registered for Physics will see only the Physics courses - and not the other courses.

How can I do this? (I'm sure there's a simple answer...)

Thanks so much!

smile

Cheryl

Yes, of course it is.

Before starting... please take care. You wrote "someone who logs". From outside you may be allowed to see the list of all course names, their teacher and their short description.
Once you get into Moodle you can access ONLY the set of courses where you are enrolled in.

You simply need to enrol your users to your courses.
How to enrol?
Go to you course, in the admin block select Roles and then Students.
From the right list select the user you want to enroll and enroll them by pushing the add button (moving their names in the list on the left).

Can this be done in a better way... yes of course.
How can I populate the list of users on the right column in roles->students? The answer is simple too but I don't want let you die under the weight of the 1001 different way to get always more from Moodle. If you need more explanation... come here again.
Ciao.

I'm very much a beginner and finding it difficult to learn how to do basic tasks, one of which is   "How can I populate the list of users on the right column in roles->students?" from your message of 12 June.

Can you enlighten me or tell me where I can find out?  Ultimately I want it to be an automatic process for students but thought I would start by understanding the manual process.

Thanks

Ken

Assuming you have students enrolled on your course already, you go to your course and click on Assign Roles which is in the block called Administration on (usually) the left side of your course. you will have three columns - one on the left with types of user; their description in the middle and then number of users in the right - Click on Student on the left. You'll then get a screen with two columns. You need to move from the right hand column the students you want in your course across into the column on the left, using the arrow in the middle.
