Its a jpg file with 1MB size.
When I upload the file I receive this message "Cannot unzip pictures file."
And the Image file doesn't get uploaded.
Can anyone help me on this.
Thanks
This is probably a question of which upload tool you are using!
If you are using Moodle 1.9 you have...
Tool 1:
Site Administration->Users->Accounts->Browse List of Users
When you want to upload just one picture for one user, go into 'edit' in that user's profile,
find the 'New Picture' field, click Browse, and pick up your .jpg file.
When you click Save Changes the file is uploaded.
Tool 2:
Site Administration->Users->Accounts->Upload User Pictures
When you have lots of pictures to upload to users, use this bulk upload tool.
In this case every picture file has to be named to match the user (typically matched by Username),
and then all the picture files have to be zipped into one file (a .zip file).
So, for example,
user01.jpg
user02.jpg
user03.jpg
...all sit in one zip file user_pictures.zip.
Because you are using Tool 2 to do Tool 1's job, it is saying it can't unzip what actually is already a .jpg file!
Well, thats my guess anyway.

John
Thanks John
I am useing moodle 1.9
I couldn't use the 1st tool , as the 'New Picture' field doesn't seem to exist.
I tried the 2nd Tool. I uploaded 2 pictures using zip file. I recieved this error.
Upload user pictures
I have not uploaded any picture's for the respective users.
I am not sure what it means by check Original file.
Can anyone help me on this.
I’vechecked $CFG->disableuserimagesin in config.php and it was ok (I’ve tried removing the entry and with FALSE value)
Did you solve your problem? I'm using Moodle 1.9.1+(Build 20080625), mySQL 5.0.51, PHP 5.2.5 and Apache on Windows 2008.
I don't have the New Picture in the user profile.
Also accessing my profile as a course user, there is no way to upload the picture (no field asking for it).
To Bump this thread I'm having the same problem also.
No option in the edit user profile to upload images, and the same error when bulk uploading.
Any ideas?
I get the same errors as above when I try tool #2.
Can't use tool #1, as there is no "Picture Of" section in a users profile. (This is what I'd really like to get working, as I want my students to upload their own photos.)
Moodle 1.9.3 on MacOS X server, Daarwin Kernel Version 9.6.0, Apache 2.2.9
This seems like it might be a config issue, as so many folks are reporting the same problem. Suggestions?
Thanks
Please reply if someone has a clue as to what the issue can be.
Thanks.
Moodle 1.9.4+ , PHP = 5.1.2, Mysql=5.0.18, running on Windows 2003 IIS.
Anyone found the answer yet?

i get the same error as posted earlier when it comes to uploading pictures for users.
as for individuals uploading their own image, that option is not even present. there is no "Picture of" option for the user to upload his image. As u can see, i managed to upload a photo here of my daughter, but in my moodle setup, the feature is just not there.
I solve mine with this step;
1) check for my gd version at Server > PHP Info (mine is version 2.0.34)
2) go to Server > System Path, i saw the default as "GD not installed". So i change it to "GD 2.x installed" and press [Save Change]
After that the "Picture Of" appear.
Hope that help.
Chad
problem fixed on my 1.9.4 Moodle with your piece of advice.

Hi All,
My GD info is correct and all the other requirements to this feed are correct to my knowledge, however i still cant upload pictures. when i try to manually add a photo it will allow me to select etc but it doesnt seem to respond and when I update my profile there still isnt a photo, any ideas i am sure its something simple!
I had the same problem once, but I solve it now. My solution is that make sure the "moodledate" files in sever has the write permission for internet users.
However, I don't know whether my solution will cause any danger to our sever?
It seems that you'd better only enable the write permission to the files "Moodledate\user\0\", instead of the whole Moodledate files.
Hey there!!!
Im having this issue: users and admin upload pictures kbs/mbs no more than 1mb, as *.jpeg(jpg),*.png. GD version 2.0.34 Compatible its installed on the php info and appears on Moodle as well. But User´s pictures/imagenes appears X, cant be seen.
Any idea, please.
