How is the rating system used?

The ratings are a quick way to provide some feedback on others' posts. For example, in one of the forums in one of my courses, I have the following scale (from worst to best):

  1.
  • This is not really relevant to this discussion
  • It's just a little relevant to this discussion
  • It adds some interesting points to this discussion
  • It is a valuable contribution to this discussion
  • It is an extremely valuable contribution to this discussion

The ratings that a student has received for any forum will then be summarized in the gradebook (grades) - a sample gradebook entry will look like this:

It is a valuable contribution to this discussion (23)
1/4/3/8/7
This means that the person has received 23 ratings:
  • This is not really relevant to this discussion (1 rating)
  • It's just a little relevant to this discussion (4 ratings)
  • It adds some interesting points to this discussion (3 ratings)
  • It is a valuable contribution to this discussion (8 ratings)
  • It is an extremely valuable contribution to this discussion (7 ratings)

and the "average" of all those is "It is a valuable contribution to this discussion"

Can I quickly pull up a list of all the posts I've rated "Perfect Answer" or "Some good information"?

No. Nor is it possible to quickly pull up all posts of yours that others have rated. sad

 EDIT:
You ask "What's the point?"

<wink>Well, If I hadn't been nicely stroked by your ratings in the other discussion, maybe I wouldn't care enough to answer your question here </wink>
