Stuck on installation front page

Stuck on installation front page

Number of replies: 8
Hi
I uploaded the moodle to my websites server.
When I type in www.mywebsite.com/moodle for example I get:
1. moodle installation (language) > english. I press next
2. Checked PHP setting, all passed
3. Please confirm the locations of this Moodle installation (pressed next) all looked ok.
4. NOW here is where the problem starts " Now you need to configure the database where most Moodle data will be stored. This database must already have been created and a username and password created to access it."

I fill in what I think I want.

5. Type mySLQ
6. host server www.mywebsite.com
7.database > moodle
8. user. I make up a user name
9. password. I made up a password
10. table prefix. mdl_

then it all ends with this >We could not connect to the database you specified. Please check your database settings.

I read all the forum has on this topic, but I cant make heads or tails out of it. Im not too technical person. what I need is steps. Can any one help ?

Thanks

Hi Shamuel

Have you actually created a database? You need to have already created a blank database for Moodle to use before you install Moodle.

Hi Shamuel

As it says in the install instructions "This database must already have been created and a username and password created to access it."

Basically you need to create an empty database on your server for Moodle to use. See the docs for more info. How you do so wil depend on your host setup.

Re: Stuck on installation front page

Hi again

I contacted my server and they said it will cost like 120 euroes 150 dollars a year to have this mysql to get it running. WOW! Im paying for a server etc etc.

I uploaded the darn file and i see within the docs file that moodle is there, outside the docs file I see moodledata there. so what the problem ?

My server said if I want mysql that costs additional ? so this moodle is not going to assist me in my needs. is there anyother open source program that will work ? with less complex ways to run it ?

The problem is that you need a database to run any software that isn't just static html (well technically not true, seen some that use a flatfile but nothing as complex as a CMS).

Who's your host? That's ridiculous and I'd be moving host.

Re: Stuck on installation front page

Thanks

The host is called saunalahti. its a Finland host. I need someone local, but man I tell you these Euro trash web hosting sites are as communist as they come!

Saunalahti is bad , they are expensive and are communistic in their dealings.

www.saunalahti.fi <<< here is the mother of finland

Saunalahti has the worst tech support, those mental midgets cant think their way out of an iglu. They dont even know what a bloody sub domain is.. go figure.

Any reason why it must be a local host? I'm in Australia but my server is in the US (better value for the money compared to Australian servers).

Sounds like you're already not too happy with them, definitely time to move I would say.

Good luck!
