Hi Paul,
You have to check the gradebook preferences, and make sure that it is configured to show points, instead of percentage. Also, check with the Moodle administrator, since some preferences are set by the admin, on the site administration options.
Finally, check what kind of aggregation method is used in the Course category. Make sure it is set to sum.
