No I know this is going to turn out to be me being stupid, but...

When we post anyhting to a forum *NO* email is sent to those subscribed (like happens on moodle.org). How do I switch this on?

BTW: Email works because the registration functions sends emails OK.

Thanks...

Having recently sorted this one out with Martin's help, the problem is that you haven't set up cron.

Be warned that all the emails will go out since you set moodle up...

Is it possible to "flush out" old emails before running cron?  I have about 150 postings to 60 users that havent been sent...

To mark all posts as having been mailed, go into the database and run this SQL maually:

UPDATE mdl_forum_posts SET mailed = 1

Note that "mdl_" here is my database prefix, yours may be different.

Did everything listed in this forum and I am still not getting forums mailed out.

Also, anyone know why Opera will not load this message system?  I had to switch back to IE to post this message.

Hi Jeffery,
There may be several reasons for "still not getting forums mailed out" but without some system details it may be more difficult to find the problem. What server software and operating system are you using etc?
Browser issue: Have you tried Mozilla yet?

The forums are being mailed now.... I was just impatient it seems.

As far as Mozilla... I tried it, but was not overly impressed.  I really like Opera.  It loads pages so much faster than IE, but for some reason will not run the Java program needed to write messages in moodle.  I will have to check my other php sites to see if it is a problem across the board.  It may be an Opera thing, or a Moodle thing...it is becoming more difficult to script pages with so many browsers out there doing different things.

Opera worked fine with Moodle last time I tried it (a week ago) - what problem did you have?

The richtext editing thing is not Java, but it is IE-only, yes. You don't need it to write messages though - you should just get a normal textarea.

When I attempt to reply or write any type of message in Moodle... or even in PostNuke, the Opera browser loads everything except the text area.  In the text area it says LOADING... but nothing ever loads.

It is probably I have setup in Opera... I just started using it and have not figured it all out yet.

Opera identifying itself as IE

Ah, you've got it set to advertise itself as MSIE smile

Preferences -> Network -> Browser Identification

Or just turn off the Richtext editor altogether in your user profile in Moodle.

Glad to hear your problem's solved. Thanks for letting us know what the resolution was Jeff. Makes it easier for those coming in later.
You weren't impressed with Mozilla? How long did you use it for? What do you like better about Opera?
Moodle & Mozilla, could it get any better? M & M, together they will rule E-Learning! approve
