As you say, it has been quite a while, but I think Gradebook+ v1 would have been before graded events were possible, thus explaining the ability to edit grades in the gradebook, yet not having the grade_events table, etc.

I've been using Moodle since 1.4, and the only way I've had this capability has been with GB+.
