Additional Catagories

Dmitry,

Is it possible to get more than 4 catagories in the attendance module. Sometimes our students are absent due to a school event, but are technically present for school records.

Not sure whether you could make this assignable where users could choose the number of catagories or you just chose a number of catagories like 8.

This would definitely make the module more flexible.

Great job on what you have done so far.

Greetings, Mark!

Can you not use "excused" and simply put the comment about where the student was in the comment area? I do this and simply put "medical", "competition", "school trip", or whatever in the comment box. I know exactly why they were absent, but the excused category takes care of all of the above.

We could do that, there are other variables that we deal with, but could probably adapt it similarly.

While that works for most cases, when exporting the data to a spreadsheet, I don't get the reason from the comment box and then have to research each "excused" tag. Having the additional category fields would allow the exported spreadsheet to wok as it is, because you could tell the reason by code. There are times that I have absences that are excused and tardies are considered absences.  Just think based on the way this module is organized, it might be easier to program additional categories than showing the comments.

The module is great as it is, but in the area of wishes and having applications for the additional categories, I was curious at how difficult it would be to increase the quantities of categories.

Honestly, I am not a programmer and have no idea how difficult it would be to make the changes.
