do I need to assign studnets into a worshop if they are enrolled in the class already?

Do I need to assign students roles as students in the workshop if they are already enrolled in the course?

(This seems like a lot of work. I do not want to have to do this every time. I would have assumed that you do not need to but in the "edit this workshop" section there is a roles tab. When I have students do a quiz they do not need to be enrolled into that quiz if they are enrolled in the class.)
