Ok, I'm completely new to this. I've been asked to transfer all the data from one server having 1.6 to another having 1.8.

I go in to Backup, select all and click Continue.

After it backs up it says

Creating temporary structures Deleting old data Creating XML file
  • Writing header
  • Writing general info
    Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in c:\program files\easyphp1-7\www\backup\backuplib.php on line 1719

Then this warning repeats enlessly it seems. It creates the backup zip file but the folders inside contain nothing.

Any suggestions?

You want to move an entire site, not individual courses. Read the Moodle documentation on Moodle migration.

If you run into problems or have questions, go to the front page of moodle.org and use the search box. There have been numerous discussions on this subject, for example this one.
