Can't delete *anything* in Moodle 1.8.2

Dear all,

The subject pretty much sums it up...

I am logged in as administrator and I've disabled Ajax. Our web server is run through a third party, so it's very possibly a set-up issue (sorry for posting that here - where should I go?) But I don't know where to start without some help. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance,

TJ Evert

We need a lot more information. Is this a new installation? An upgrade? What are you trying to delete? Do you not see a delete icon ( x ) when you turn editing on, or do you see the icon, but it has no effect? Or, when you click it, do you get an error message of some sort?

Thanks for the quick reply.

It's a new installation. I'm trying to delete courses I was using for practice (which I now can't even hide). I click the "x" and it goes through

Deleted 0 x assignment
Deleted 0 x chat
Deleted 0 x choice
Deleted 0 x data
Could not delete forum instance 3 (News forum)
Deleted 0 x forum

and so on until I get:

An error occurred while deleting some of the course contents.
An error occurred while deleting the main course record.
An error occurred while deleting the main context record.

web101 has been completely deleted

which turns out to not be the case. Any thoughts?

Looks like a misconfigured confixx driven server. Files uploaded with moodle possible get another owner than files uploaded via FTP - sometimes happening when not suexec is being used. Your provider should be able to help you.

A 3rd party is hosting the site, so I don't even have direct access to my files. I am planning on trying to re-install and run it off our server here at school. I was just hoping for a simpler solution. Any other thoughts?

Were your practice courses restored from another site? If so, the problem may be related to MDL-10056. Read all the comments in the bug report and see if any of them matches your situation.

Thanks again. For the record, iIt's a "first time" installation (in 1.8.2).

I saw the "solution" you refernced in the bug tracker, but I'm not proficient enough in PHP to implement the solution (as convoluted as it seems). With all due credit to Mr. Tagliani, I just can't quite follow what he's trying to say...
