Outline/hierachical view of topics

The recent discussion here about hiding topics suggested
the following related thought. It would be nice to have
an outline/hierachical view of topics.

Perhaps this could be implemented via adding a further
type of "activity" one could add to the top page of
a course: a "container" for other activities.  A
container could contain another container, etc.

I've already put this kind of thing in a feature request in bugs.moodle.org.

I like the way you describe it...a container object, that can contain other containers. Nice and simple concept.

I would like to see this as well. This linear format down the center of the screen is not always the best way to present a self paced course.

This is a fairly old thread. Course formats have come a long way since 2003 and the standard is being enhanced accordingly for 2.3. The most notable improvement is the addition of a default display of one course section per page. Hierarchy is then just a matter of navigation. smile

it would be nice if there was a something in the DOCS about this. and maybe even some examples of each type.
