Hi moodlers,

I installed moodle in a webhost but would like to have mySQL  hosted by my PC
I've ADSL connection.  the reason being to have security for my the database

what do i have to do?

You may face the problem that you probably have a dynamic IP address. This means that occasionally your database may dissappear for no apparent reason (from the perspective of your programs).

That's a very good point.  Another is that I would have thought that this would give rise to horrendous performance problems too.  If you are on 512K ADSL then your backhaul is probably only 256K.  Moodle does a *lot* of database access, so from the perspective of a user on your moodle site, I would expect things to be a bit slow.

You would be just as well hosting the whole thing on your PC! The availability and access issues would be exactly the same and it would be a lot quicker and less likely to break. Its not going to be terribly quick over ADSL though, the bandwidth is quite small in that direction!

It can be done, you need to have a look at Dynamic DNS - check out (amongst others) www.dyndns.org
