Hi,
I'm creating a database template on my moodle test server. Does anyone know if I can export it to a preset.zip and then import it to the production server? Does this have any sense?
Any suggestion will be appreciate

Hi Atia,
Yes, you can create a preset then export and import it to your production server. However, please ensure you are using the latest Moodle 1.8 version, as it includes a fix for a preset bug (MDL-12439).

Hi Helen,
I tried to create a new database on the same course (still testing...) using my template which I saved as a preset on preset's filed. When I add a record, there are the fileds I specified on the original database, with same names etc, but with the default visualization template again.
Is that normal? Is there a way to share the template between courses?
Thanks for your help

Hello Atia,
I ran into this same problem when I was creating several of the same database. It may not be the correct solution to the problem but what I did was copy the source code of the template into a simple Notepad document for each of the templates. Then I pasted the same code back into the new course.
Hope this helps at least temporarily. It would be nice if the templates came with.

Hi Atia,
Please update your Moodle site to the latest 1.8 version in order to be able to share templates between courses and between sites.

Hi Helen and Leah,
I just downloaded moodle's latest 1.8 yesterday, so I don't think this is the problem because I am already able to share the template but it only inherits the fields I defined.
By the moment I'm also doing this copy&paste solution, but we'd like teachers to be able to do it by theyrselfs without having to set up again the look&feel
If you guys have another idea I will appreciate it.
Since then, thanks for your help
Salut, Atia

Hi Joe
I see this is an old thread, but I'm having the same problem on 1.9. I export a preset as a zip file, upload it to another Moodle, and it won't unzip. The internal Moodle unzip function is working. Did you ever find a solution?
Thanks

Dan,
it should work fine with the latest 1.9.1+. with the original version 1.9. It might not work. A lot of presets related bugs have been fixed since then.

Hi,
We've been migrating from 1.6.5+ to 1.8.5+ lately, 1.6's databases have been migrated too..They are still working but won't get imported in an other course, we must re-create them under 1.8 before importing otherwise we get this message: "New preset has no defined fields" (the export to a zip file or saving to a preset works anyway).
Is there a patch or a "light" change in the code we can apply in order to be able to import zips or save as presets 1.6's migrated databases under 1.8 ?
Thanks in advance, regards
Julien

Hello.. I cannot import presets. I am using v 1.8.8. I browse for the .zip file, click 'Import' and nothing happens. Blank Screen. This occurs on both IE 6 and latest version of Firefox. Does anyone know why this may be happening? I searched the bug tracker but couldn't find anything open for v.1.8+ ... thanks
