backup own course contents only to external drive

Hi,

I have a need to backup ALL of my course material to an external drive. Currently it is held on the organisation's internal Moodle server and I wish to place the same content onto my private Moodle server without rebulding all of MY resourses from scratch. Anyone advise on how I might achieve this please.

The following is assuming Moodle 1.8+. The instructions are roughly the same for older versions on Moodle, just with less options.

To make a "Backup” of the a single course data use the Backup functionality in the administration block of your course.

The Backup page is used to make a ZIP file of all the materials in a course (activities, resources, etc) you select as well as the Students work (user data).

By default all the categories, items, and user data are selected.

When the back up is complete you will be on the “Files > backupdata” page of your course and should see the file you have just created.

To import your ZIP file to a different Moodle Server, you must first download your Zip file to your local machine/network drive. Click on the file name and choose to “Save” the file to your computer.

Then you can Upload the file to the “Files > backupdata” page of your course on your personal Moodle. Then click "Restore" follow the prompts and that should do it.
