Can hidden sections automatically display ?

I don't know if 1.8+ can do this but I hope it can.

Can weekly activities and resources hidden from students in courses, before the activity or resource is to be used, automatically  become viewable and accessable to students the week the resource is to be used?

The way it looks in the documents is that the closed "eye" in the course must be manually opened by the admin or a teacher. Can hidden sections be made to automatically display? What are the steps to setup a currently hidden activity or resource to display automatically the week it is to use taken or used?

It would be nice to only have to set a resource's starting date (of say a 5 week course) and have students or customers enter the course and have the weekly contents of each activity or resource display at the right time each week? In this way contents of a five week course can run for a year and have students enroll and have access to hidden resources automatically revealed or displayed.

If this can't be done it should be. Can this be done in 1.8+ and how? Thanks ahead.

The Open University solves this problem by allowing you to put an activity into "stealth mode" and to specify a "livedate" on which the activity becomes visible. Read about it in this discussion, then vote for MDL-4782.

Thanks John. I'll look into this. Having a course section run on its own would save a lot of time. I'll vote for MDL-4782 now. BTW, is this "stealth mode" code accessable from Open University?

I doubt it. In the discussion I referenced, Sam Marshall (of OU) volunteered to contribute the code to core Moodle.
